For our first client woodworking project, we crafted a unique, self-standing bookshelf that combines artistic flair with practical storage — no leaning against the wall required.
The client wanted something eye-catching yet functional: plenty of shelf space for books, a spot for a wine bottle, a home for a small bonsai, and a sturdy base for extra items like magazines or remotes.
Key Design Features
Fully freestanding — wide, stable crate-style base sits flat on the floor for complete independence and safety.
Zigzag / branch-inspired shelves — asymmetrical extensions from a tall central mahogany panel create dynamic visual flow and make every shelf feel intentional.
Integrated accents — custom bicycle wine holder + top perch for a bonsai plant add personality and conversation-starting charm.
Bottom storage crate — open box base provides hidden or display storage, adding rustic contrast to the sleek upper branches.

100% solid mahogany — rich, warm reddish tones with beautiful natural grain.
Hand-sanded smooth and finished with clear satin polyurethane to protect while highlighting the wood's authentic beauty.
